You see them all over TV and the internet. “The only way to detox is the new blah blah blah.” People talk about how a natural body detox changed their life. But do these detox programs really work, or are they just scams? What will they do for me?

Let’s spend a minute talking about the environment we live in. Modern civilization puts us in constant contact with toxins everyday. From the air we breathe to the food we eat, toxins build up in our body faster than our livers and other organs involved in a whole body detox can carry the out. We begin to show symptoms of toxicity, such as allergies, depression, weight problems, and aches and pains, just to name a few. We don’t know where they come from or how they got there, but we deal with this stuff everyday.

Sometimes even more severe health problems come from increased toxins in your body over a longer period of time. Some of these include infertility, arthritis, lupus and asthma. We’re not talking about heredity here. Some problems are due to your genes and won’t be changed by a natural body detox. So knowing the difference will be helpful in knowing what to expect of a body detox program.

So what are some of the benefits of a body detox program? Well, for one, you will have increased energy because your organs will not be so busy trying to remove all that junk from your body. But what else?

faster metabolism

less hunger pangs

more restful sleep

stronger immune system

glowing skin

positive thoughts and a clear head

fewer cravings for unhealthy food

These are the most common benefits of a total body detox. Your results may vary depending on what kind of toxicity you were suffering from to begin with. Like many medications, a body detox program has some side effects from all these toxins traveling through and out of your body. They are usually most prevalent in the first couple of days, which is why it is important you have some free time when you start your whole body detox. Be on the lookout for these side effects:

fatigue headache

itchy skin or pimples

indigestion and/or gas

mucus from your sinuses or bronchial passages constipation or diarrhea

anxious or irritable disposition

bad breath

dark urine

trouble concentrating or

confusion joint or muscle pain

Sounds serious, huh? Don’t worry, most people don’t suffer all those side effects and they are very short lived. When doing a whole body detox for the first time, you will experience a few of these as the toxins leave your body. Don’t let them deter you from doing what’s right for you! Besides, you probably experience these a lot of the time anyway due to the toxicity in your body right now. Before doing a total body detox, it would be advisable to talk to your doctor to make sure that you are not going to complicate any conditions such as diabetes. With the help of your physician, you can have a safer, healthier detoxification.

Effective Body Detox Program

The first thing to do in order to begin a body detox program is to get rid of all the chemical based toiletries and household products you have been using. So, it is time for all those cleansers, shampoos and deodorants to go. Replace them with nature based products instead. Also strictly abstain from the temptations of alcohol, caffeine, cigarettes, unsaturated fat and refined sugars.

Stress is another silent enemy. A temporary pumping up of adrenaline is very good to meet that extra deadline, but regular stress causes your liver to slow down the detoxifying process.

Before embarking on any body detox program it is best to know which one is best for you. The duration of the program may vary from 7 days to more than 2 weeks.

There are quite a few other popular and useful detox methods from which to choose. Here are a couple of body detox plans and the benefits they have to offer:

1) Body Detox Program #1: Cleaning supplement packages, which are easily available in the market. They usually contain fiber, vitamins and minerals, and are good for cleansing.

2) Body Detox Program #2: There was an ancient practice in many cultures of following the regimen of drinking only water one day of the week. Needless to say, it is extremely effective as a body detox program.

It is, however, important to remember that after a detox program is over, you have to follow it up with an overall healthy lifestyle. Here are some post body detox program diets that you should follow:-

a) Eat brown rice and organically grown fruits and veggies with plenty of fibers. Also include cabbage, broccoli, radishes, seaweed etc in your diet.

b) Drink green tea and eat dandelion roots, burdock and milk thistle to cleanse your liver.

c) Remember to take plenty of Vitamin C to produce glutathione to maintain your liver.

d) It is advisable to drink 2 quarts of water everyday and inhale deeply to cleanse and regulate oxygen in your body. Also, think positive thoughts. It helps reduce stress levels.

e) For Hydrotherapy, take a very hot shower for 5 minutes, and follow it up with a cold shower for 30 seconds. Then, lie down for 30 minutes, and you will be fresh and cleansed.

f) In order to remove toxins through your pores, you can dry brush your skin or try detoxifying patches and foot baths. Perspiring in a sauna to get rid of toxins through sweat is another great idea.

g) Exercise regularly. Go for daily walks and practice yoga or qigong.

A word of warning though; There may, however, be certain side-effects to all this. Some of these include:-

i) Bad breath

ii) Headaches

iii) Body odor

iv) Fatigue

v) Skin rashes

vi) Mucous discharge

vii) Abdominal gas and rumbling.

viii) Cold feet and hands

ix) Joint pains

x) Sleeplessness

But remember that not everyone suffers like this. In my first body detox program, I had terrible headaches and body pains for the first two days. But I did not give up. And now, I am extremely proud of myself.

After my first body detox program, which continued for 6 weeks, I have continued living a healthy lifestyle. I exercise regularly, and try to detox at least twice a year, you should too; it really works!

A body detox plan is not only a good method of losing weight, but an excellent way to rid your body of toxins as well. These toxins are substances that are harmful to the body and which have accumulated over a long period of time. If losing weight has ever been a problem for you, you might want to consider implementing a body detox plan. The biggest advantage to be derived from doing so would be the twin benefits of weight loss as well as a cleaner, more active system. Modern body detox plans include some of the latest techniques recommended by healthcare professionals worldwide to help people stay healthy and fit.

Exposure to pollution in the environment and impurities in food and water is taking a toll on our health on a daily basis, so a full body detox plan would be the perfect step to take to flush out the harmful toxins, and lose weight in the bargain! You’ll also have to implement other natural remedies alongside your body detox plan: relaxation and stress-busting techniques will help, as well as exercises which get your muscles moving!

However, even though a body detox program may sound relatively easy to put yourself through, there are certain precautions you should keep in mind before you begin your body detox plan. These are:-

a) Be aware of side effects! You may experience headaches, fatigue or skin problems while undergoing a body detox plan. But you need not be alarmed as they should not persist for long.

b) Consult your physician before undertaking a body detox plan and make sure it’s safe for you. It’s only wise to do so as you may not be aware of certain underlying medical conditions that may be worsened due to changes brought about as a result of following a body detox program.

c) DO NOT stop any medication you might be on to implement a body detox plan. This method cleanses, it doesn’t cure any health problems you might be facing.

d) DO NOT undertake a body detox plan if you’re suffering from any major disease like heart problems or cancer.

e) It’s best if you don’t undertake such a plan if you’re in an important stage of your life and are likely to be undergoing large amounts of stress.

f) Try taking a vacation for the duration of your body detox plan, especially if you work in such an area where it might have a negative impact on the benefits of such a plan.

During your body detox plan, you will be advised to stay away from sugar, dairy products, starchy foods, foods with preservatives and certain cereals. On your menu will be plenty of water, of course, rice, fish, fruits and vegetables and maybe even herbal teas. That’s the best part about body detox plans; there are a number of food options available that you can enjoy!

So treat your body to a proper detox plan, and you’ll soon be able to see and feel its results for yourself!
