When someone is with a drug addiction, it becomes a foregone conclusion that they will have to go through a detox treatment. People who are looking at any kind of drug addiction treatment are resigned to the fact that they will need detox. But this is not the case with alcohol addiction treatment. Alcohol detox is simply not considered to be as important as drug detox. That is the reason people have several questions when they are counseled that they will have to go through an alcohol detox program.

The following are some questions that people facing the prospect of an alcohol detox have, with their answers.

Q1. Is alcohol detox really important?

Most patients of alcohol addiction ask this, and even their families do. However, the answer to this question is a positive “yes”. Alcohol detox is just as important as a drug detox treatment if not more. The first benefit that this treatment provides is that it completely detoxifies the body. The meaning of detoxification is removal of toxins, which in this case is the alcohol itself. So, when a person is made to go through an alcohol detox treatment, the alcohol present in the body of the person is removed.

This has many positive benefits on the person. One, it helps the patient to come out of the health problems that the alcohol accumulation might cause, such as the cirrhosis of the liver. It helps alcoholics to stay healthier. In most people, it has been found that they have gotten into a better body shape after an alcohol detox treatment. Also, it helps people in coming out of their urges for the substance. As long as there is presence of alcohol in the body of the person, there is always a chance that the person will have a tendency to have more of it. But with the detox treatment, the alcohol is completely removed from the body. Hence, there is a possibility that the person is completely brought out of the temptation of the substance. This is a definite positive benefit of the detox treatment.

For these reasons, alcohol detox is indeed important and must not be neglected.

Q2. How is an alcohol detox treatment program implemented?

First, the person’s condition is properly analyzed to make sure that the person does not have any physical or psychiatric complication that might pose a problem to the treatment program. Once it is decided that the person is fit enough to go through the alcohol detox treatment, he or she is made to abstain completely from the substance. In order to make things simpler, the patient is kept in an isolated treatment center so that they are away from familiar circumstances and people, thus making it better to stay away from the substance.

Within a few hours or within a day or two, the person will begin feeling the initial pangs of withdrawal, which will be characterized by a craving for the substance which becomes stronger every hour. A time might come when the patient will show violent physical reactions for want of alcohol. This is when a battery of the right kinds of medicines (depending on the patient’s condition and the program of the treatment center) will be provided so that the person can be brought out of this condition.

The withdrawal pangs are at their strongest on the second to third day of the detox. Once the person is brought out of this peak period, the withdrawal gradually goes on diminishing because the medication begins to take effect. After about a week, most patients are completely out of their alcohol withdrawal.

Q3. What about the medicines that are provided during alcohol detox?

There are two main functions of the medications that are provided during the alcohol detox. The first intention is to help the body come out of the temptation for using the alcohol. Medications such as Antabuse, Campral and Topamax are used for this purpose. Antabuse is quite effective and almost universally used. This substance can actually cause an aversion in the person for alcohol, which is quite effective in helping people come out of their addictions.

There are also medications such as Naltrexone which are provided here. These medications are used mostly to stabilize the body after the withdrawal begins to appear. The main function of these medications is to bring the body back to a normal state as much as possible.

Q4. In what cases will an alcohol detox be waived?

An alcohol detox will almost always be a part of the treatment program, but if the patient has been with the addiction for a very short time, typically under a year, then the detox program might be waived for them.

detox

In today’s health conscious world, it has become a necessity more than a luxury to keep your body in perfect shape and condition, body detoxification has shown several benefits that help you do the same. It is a method by which the toxins that enter out body through various sources are flushed out. Body detoxification not only helps in improving your health but also keeps your body in good shape.

Most of us often tend to forget that our skin is among the most important filters that out body posses. It plays a big role in releasing and absorbing toxins and can have a major role to play when it comes to body detoxification process.

In case you are looking for a program that would make you feel and look younger along with helping you lose the extra weight, you could consider going for Body detox wrap. This is a process of extracting those harmful toxins from your body and releasing them through your skin. Body detox wrap is considered to be one of the easiest ways of body detoxification.

This process of detoxification is not just about removing the harmful toxins from your body, it also ensures that the essential organs of the body that help in blood purification, which also includes your skin, are functioning properly and are in perfect shape.

A body detox wrap draws out toxins from within the body through the skin. A body detox wrap is a great way to remove toxins from the body through the skin that maybe much harder to remove through other detoxification processes such as dietary changes or purges.

Usually, the body detox wrap is about applying mineral rich clay that generally consists of certain kinds of ash to the skin. Next, the clay is kept in place with the help of different kinds of wraps depending on the kind of detoxification process you want to go through.

It depends on your personal preferences whether you want to go for full body detox wrap or a specific area at a time. But I suggest going for specific areas as a full body detox wrap may have certain side effects. This is because with a full body wrap you will be losing a large amount of toxins from your body at a very fast rate.

Opting for body detox wrap can help you use your skin in a terrific way to lose toxins from your system by pulling them out directly. This process not only helps in losing harmful toxins but also in losing additional weight. Usually, the non-processed toxins are stored in your body fat, which must be removed at the earliest to avoid further toxin build up. These fats are removed easier when they do not contain any potential harmful toxins.

So to conclude, in case you are thinking of trying out body detox wrap then going ahead with it won’t be a bad idea. But it is advisable that you go for partial body detox wrap rather than full body to avoid any side effects.

detox

When you are looking for a way to feel clean and less stressed out, you might realize that it’s time to seriously think about a whole body detox. Our bodies take a lot of abuse, and as we walk around, at work and at home, we can absorb a great deal of toxins through our skin and through the food we eat. By carrying those toxins around, we find that we feel heavier, and no matter how hard we scrub the shower, or how meticulous we are in our personal hygiene, we may always feel a little grimy. This is exactly where a sauna or a body detox wrap can step in and help up detox our bodies, so take a look below to see how a sauna can help you!

To understand why a sauna works, think of your body and what happens during a fever. During a fever, your body essentially chooses to get hotter and hotter due to the fact that it wants to kill off the germs that are proliferating inside this. No matter how uncomfortable this makes you, the fever does kill off germs, and this is essentially what you are doing with a sauna. A sauna can work as a whole body detox towards removing the various toxins and viruses that are plaguing your body are weaker than normal cells, and because they do not tolerate heat as well as the other cells in your body, they can be killed when the temperature has been raised slightly.

At the most basic level, you’ll find that the use of a full body detox can enhance your metabolic process. This means that you will be charging your cellular energy up to the highest level and help your body fuel the processes that keep it moving and healing. Saunas, no matter how they conduct the heat to your skin, will help your body circulate better and oxygenate better. There are plenty of different ways that saunas can help you, both in terms of detoxing your body and of improving your health.

Similarly, when you are thinking about the role that your skin plays in your natural body detox progress and your basic health, you’ll find that your skin has a large role to play in terms of keeping your body clean. Its first purpose, of course, is to keep toxins and infections from getting into your body, but you’ll find that it also has the responsibility for pushing toxins that have been in your body out of it. You’ll find that there are many reasons why your skin cannot do this. Restrictive clothing that does not breathe, sun damage, and the chemicals that we put on our skin on a daily basis, from cleansers to lotions can prevent our skin from doing what it needs to do.

A sauna uses heat and moisture to open up your skin and pull toxins out of it, something that is necessary when it comes to a total body detox. You’ll find that there are plenty of different types of saunas out there as well as plenty of ways formalize a body detox plan, so find the one that will be best for your body and your situation!

detox

your body once in a while is good for your body. Detox doesn’t just mean abstaining from beer or junk food for a couple of days. Our body is a storehouse of toxins and dangerous chemicals build up over a time frame that render our immune system ineffective and damage other parts of our body. When the toxin level becomes high, they get transformed into free radicals and cause extensive damage to all other organs, damage the body’s defense and may cause lots of severe medical conditions such as diabetes, MS and even cancer. Now that we know how harmful these toxins are, how do we look after our body? One of the ways is with a detox diet. Body detox and its benefits is a well researched subject now. Research has also shown that a detox once or twice a year helps in lowering cholesterol in blood, counter allergies, improving skin, balancing the chemical levels in the body and effectively lengthens our life span. When you take a detox diet, you’re doing your body a service by helping it get rid of the toxins and useless chemicals that have accrued through out the years. This diet is used by many celebrities and people who were able to triumph over their various addictions. They assert this type of diet has improved their life quality by increasing energy levels, aiding weight loss, improving digestion, improving the body’s defense system, improving their mental mind frame and driving away the fatigue that was hindering their every movement. All the above can be obtained with a healthy diet and regular exercise but people normally recognize the magnitude of a healthy diet late in life and by then our body is already infused with a large quantity of toxins. At this stage, a detox diet is the best way to bring back normalcy to our body. There are a lot of variations in detox diets. One of the choices is liquid detox diet whereby you only drink water or fruit juices for a few days. Else, there are diets that increase the content of fish or reduce the calorie consumption per day. A herbal detox diet is a packaged diet that aid you in achieving your goal. So many detox diet combination are available that, as long you have the right fundamentals, you can also build your own diet catalogue. The grape diet is a straightforward detox diet recipe. This diet requires you to eat only grapes and nothing else. Eat it however you want, as a fruit with water or as juice. This should be followed for a few days to allow your system a thorough cleanse. It’s adequate if you use this diet for a few days if you’re healthy. Another type of detox diet is the lemon diet. It’s also one of the most popular. With this diet, all you have to do is drink lemon juice and nothing else for the whole day. Water is known as one of the best detox agents, so ensure that you drink more than 64 ounces a day. When you add lemon to water, you get the extra nourishment of Vitamin C. While it’s one of the simplest detox diet, the lemon diet is somewhat more complicated than the grape diet. The recipe for this diet involve mixing two tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemons, 1/8th of cayenne pepper, 2 tablespoons of B grade organic maple syrup with a cup of pure water. It’s vital to be sure the water is fluoride free. Another type of detox diet is the cabbage soup diet. This diet is more forgiving as it’s more filling and thus able to keep hunger pangs away. The Gazpacho diet is similar to cabbage. This is a Spanish soup with a combination of tomatoes, bell peppers, fresh garlic clove and cucumbers. This soup is meant to be drink cold. While a detox diet is a great way of getting a whole new body with good eating habits; however, be cautious while choosing your detox diet and implementing it.

detox

One of the biggest enemies to any body detox program is not the air that you breathe or the toxins you ingest. What is it, you ask?

Stress. That’s right. Stress is Natural Body Detox Enemy #1. Why?

Your body is in such an agitated state that your immune system has to work harder to fight off infection. It gets tired of being overworked and underpaid, and weakens. That’s why so many healthy people get sick when they get stressed. Workaholics know what I’m talking about. Being in a constant state of stress also puts them in a constant state of sickness. Your whole body detox doesn’t need the added stress, pardon my pun.

The higher adrenaline levels produced from being stressed also affects your digestive system. It simply tires it out. This is why when you feel stress hunger is usually not part of that. This can have long-term negative effects which hinder any natural body detox. Over time, your digestive system is going to produce less of its enzymes, which in turn lower your body’s ability to get rid of and process all those nasty little toxins you ingest.

These high levels of hormones and chemicals your body pumps out in response to stress contain free radicals, which, as many of us know, make you more suceptible to cancer and are the nemesis to any whole body detox.

So when you are on a body detox program, be sure to take stress seriously and find ways to alleviate it so you’re not sabotaging all the good work you’re doing. What should you do to alleviate stress during a natural body detox?

1. Take a bath. Baths are a wonderful way to release stress and purify yourself at the same time. Try doing a bentonite clay bath, adding epsom salt, or a vinegar bath to double duty bathtime and make it a detoxifying as well as a relaxing experience.

2. Breathe deep. When we are stressed, we usually begin to rush. Our heart rate goes up and we begin talking a mile a minute. Sit quietly for a couple of minutes and breathe deeply, focusing on the rising and falling of your stomach with each inhalation and exhalation. Which leads us to the next tip…

3. Meditate. In addition to deep breathing, meditation forces us to slow down. You may want to try using a guided meditation CD if you have trouble focusing. It all starts with paying attentiion to your breath.

4. Exercise. A moderate amount of daily exercise helps keep you balanced. Stress will be easier to handle when you are healthier. Try taking a walk after dinner or first thing in the morning.

5. Get adequate rest. Like exercise, getting enough sleep at night is key to how you handle your day. Allow yourself at least eight hours to sleep each night.

Just surf the internet or leaf through the pages of magazines and you will come to find out the description of a number of detox programs vying for your attention. The different detox plans come with different objectives and their paths of action are also different from each other. There are detox programs that aim at cleansing your colon; there are many that may target your liver for its detox action. An efficient detox program is one that tactfully weaves all these programs into a total health plan. This type of detox plan can restore back your lost health, energy and vitality.

Although there are different approaches to detoxification dealing with the problem at different levels, most of them begin at the level of diet. Different detoxification diets help the body to get rid of toxins in different ways. As a whole, the detox diet emphasizes on a healthy whole food diet backed up by plenty of liquid consumption.

A typical detox diet consists of fiber rich fresh fruits and vegetables. During detox these fruits and vegetables are recommended to be consumed raw. These foods are also replete with multiple vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Above all, there are plenty of enzymes to aid in the process of digestion. All these nutrients nourish the eliminative organs; contribute to make healthy bowels and works for the smooth elimination of the waste from the system. These detox diets are typically free of animal products and therefore easy to digest. Thus these vegetarian diets are good at flushing out the chemicals from the body.

A detox diet is not boring or tasteless, although it restricts the intake of certain types of foods.

-Nearly 40% of detox diet should be composed of fresh fruits and vegetables. The ideal detox diet includes variety of colorful, especially red and green vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, sprouts, onions, garlic, artichokes and beets.

-Types of beans are major component of a detox diet and they supply the necessary protein to the body. Split yellow and green peas, lentils, kidney beans, chickpeas and pinto beans can enhance the efficiency of your detox diet. – Among the whole grains, rice is the first choice of many of the detox nutritionists for their easy digestive properties. You can also consume such grains as quinoa, amaranth, millet or buckwheat in the place of rice from time to time. – Nuts and seeds are another major component of your detox diet. As a part of the detox diet you can consume flaxseed, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, almonds, cashews and walnuts, but avoid peanuts. – the foods you should avoid roughly are: – dairy products, wheat, corn, yeast, red meat, alcohol, food additives and preservatives, chocolate and other calorie rich foods. – Also complement your diet with probiotics, psyllium, activated charcoal, or bentonite clay for easy bowel movement. Back them up all by taking plenty of drinking water per day. Drinking two cups of vegetable broth is also helpful for the cleansing process.

detox

First of all, detox is a term used to define the process of detoxification, which is used to describe the process of removing any toxic waste from the body. Many people today use detox as a way of cleansing their colons of unwanted waste, but for many, detox is more than ridding yourself of a few extra pounds. For many, ridding the body of alcohol and drug remnants and also withdrawing from the use of such is called drug detox. Never, under any circumstances, should a person attempt to perform a drug detox without proper medical supervision.

Drug detox is the first step in a method that will involve the body’s own process of ridding itself of drug chemicals that it has grown to rely on. What most people don’t realize, is that the remnants of drugs or alcohol in a body system of an addict will produce cravings for more unless every one of those remnants is expelled from the body. It is the first and most difficult step for most recovering addicts, who won’t begin the actual recovery process until they complete the drug detox program. Hundreds of drug detox centers are scattered throughout the United States and other countries and can deal with mild to severe addictions to drugs like heroin to addictions caused by anti-depressants and pain killers such as Xanax, Darvocet and Codeine, among a wealth of others.

New medications used in many drug detox facilities enables those withdrawing from drugs of any sort to take prescribed medications to make the process easier and less uncomfortable. Some such drug detox facilities offer closely monitored withdrawal from opiate addictions with a high rate of success. Individual and group counseling is also available at a drug detox center. Staff members encourage patients to talk about their addictions, a main step in the healing process. After the drug detox process has been completed, many drug detox centers also offer drug rehabilitation counseling services as well.

The key to a successful drug detox program is to admit that there is a problem and then to make a decision to so something about it. A drug detox center can help you do just that, and is equipped to help people get off such drugs and abused medications slowly and safely. A drug detox center in hospitals or community settings includes medical and psychiatric support for patients. A good drug detox center will offer more than a room and a bed, but will offer both emotional and caring support for patients and their families. A drug detox center can help not only the person undergoing the detox process, but friends and family when it comes time to offer ongoing support after discharge. Many people are ashamed or embarrassed to admit they have a problem and refuse to go to a drug detox center. But trying to withdraw from drugs on your own is a dangerous and painful process without correct and trained medical supervision. A drug detox center can provide everything someone needs, from medications to counselors for patients. No one should go through the drug detox process alone, and a drug detox center is the best place to undergo this life changing experience.

detox

Obstacles are bound to crop up during any full body detox. In order to allow your program to work, you must deal with these right away. There is no point in going through with a natural body detox if you are not willing to cut those things out of your life as they will continue to allow toxins in your system. This is a lifetime process.

1. Nicotine: If you’re a smoker, don’t even bother with a body detox program unless you are committed to quit. Besides being deadly, there are hundreds of carcinogens and tons of other chemicals that will hinder your ability to follow a body detox program. Slowly wean yourself off of smoking or go to your doctor for help.

2. Stress: Even if you think you are doing everything right, your whole body detox will never work if you’re constantly stressed out. Stress triggers hormones that slow the process, and can keep a full body detox form working. Be sure you deal with stress as soon as it comes up through meditation, exercise or whatever works.

3. UV Rays: Frying on a tanning bed wreaks havoc on any body detox diet, so does spending hours in the sun leaving your skin unprotected. UV damages your body and piles the toxins on. Be sure to wear a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15, and reapply after a couple of hours in the sun.

4. Not getting enough nutrients in your diet: Certain B-vitamins, beta-carotene, and other nutrients are vital to any body detox diet. Be sure to eat plenty of leafy greens, including seaweed. Bulk up on fiber and eat plenty of brown rice. Take a multivitamin daily. Omega 3s and/or fish oil is also a good thing to add.

5. Ingesting chemicals: A total body detox includes shunning all toxins. Try to eat as many organic foods as possible, keeping away from foods that may have pesticides, BGH, and other chemicals. Try shopping at farmer’s market or your local produce stand to avoid paying the higher prices in specialty markets.

6. Staying dehydrated: Eight glasses a day is no longer the recommended amount of water you should drink. Divide by your weight in lbs by two, and drink that many ounces of water daily. Hydration will help you feel refreshed and move those toxins out of your pores.

7. Cut back on prescriptions: While some medications are necessary, cut back on any painkillers or other medications that are not for chronic or life threatening conditions. Some of these medications are actually bad for your liver and will hinder the whole body detox.

Remember that there is no way you can cut all this out at once. Easy does it. Gradually cut back on the harmful things and work in the good stuff. Don’t think of this as punishment or some kind of restriction. These are lifestyle changes, an essential to making any body detox program work.

detox

What is detox? We’ve heard about it but there are so many various ways that a person can detox their body that it’s hard to know exactly which someone is talking about. There’s drug and alcohol detox, which is cleansing the body of alcohol and drugs. Then there’s the detox diet and the body detox. Detox is short for detoxification, a process by which your body filters out all the bad stuff and toxins that have built up over weeks, months and in some cases, years.

For many, the first step in detoxification is to stop eating and drinking the things that are bad for you. That means soda, high fat and high sugar foods and the like. Those foods and drinks are replaced by healthy foods and vitamin and mineral supplements. In a short amount of time, the body will begin to flush out the toxins that have built up over time. That’s the idea, anyway. But some detox diets are a little on the extreme side and can cause more harm than good. Some common side effects of detox diets and detox methods that are not carefully monitored can include, but are not limited to headaches, which are common when withdrawing from caffeine, upset stomach, diarrhea and sometimes even fever. Many people experience feelings of lethargy and can grow irritable and moody. While many of these symptoms are normal as the body rids itself of the bad stuff and is adjusting to better foods and beverages, listen to your body. If something seems out of whack, pay attention. Make sure that you drink lots of water when trying to detox to prevent your body from becoming dehydrated. Also keep in mind that your body does need some fats and sugars, so don’t cut these items totally out of your diet or you might experience dizziness caused by low blood sugar, among other symptoms.

Most detox experts state that the amount of time a detox will take depends on how bad your eating and drinking habits were before you began the detox program. A simple detox could take as little as a few days to a more thorough detox, which can last several weeks. Maintaining a healthy diet is very important while undergoing a detox. Some people favor drinking only tea for several days at a time, but this is not a wise move. Make sure you’re getting enough nutrients from what you do eat to sustain normal body functions.

As with anything, use good judgment when it comes to your body. Developing good eating and drinking habits is always a good thing, but don’t push your body past its limits, especially if this is the first time you’ve attempted a detox. If some of the detox symptoms mentioned above don’t go away within a few days, you might want to consider seeing a doctor and give him or her complete information about what you’re doing. A detox can help cleanse the body of a bunch of accumulated waste, but should be done using caution and good judgment. A detox is not a fix-all. A detox is meant to be the first step in changing bad habits.

detox
